Video Grabber DVI / VGA (VGR-801, VGR-1001)

Real-time capture device for digital and analogue video

VGR-1001 and VGR-801 are new entries in the VGR-1000 series. New, more compact case eases the installation. At the same time both devices remain fully compatible with their predecessors.

Video Grabber DVI / VGA series (VGR-801 and VGR-1001) are real-time video capturing devices that work using the Digital Visual Interface (DVI) interface. Equipped with two dual-link DVI-I ports they can be used to capture digital or analogue video signals. VGR devices automatically detect the type of supplied signal (analogue / digital single-link / digital dual-link) and if analogue signal is detected then user is given an option to align the captured signal within the capture frame manually. Alternatively a modeline can be set.

Built-in passive video splitter allows VGRs to be safely installed between the computer and its screen (pass-through connection) regardless of the type of the signal (digital / analogue) as it does not have to be powered on to forward the video signal to the display*.

Configured either by using web browser or via SNMPv3, Video Grabbers VGR-801 and VGR-1001 provide wide variety of possibilities: both lossless and lossy compression algorithms are available, captured signal can be provided as RTSP stream or saved at a user-defined network location (Samba and Network File System are supported). It is also up to the user to define the frequency of the screen capture.

Support for Network Time Protocol (NTP) makes it possible to precisely timestamp the data at the moment of its capture – a feature that is crucial in environments where having an exact record of events is a must.

Designed for the Air Traffic Control Video Grabbers VGR-801 and VGR-1001 provide an option for power and network redundancy. Depending on user requirements they can be connected either between the computer and its monitor (pass-through) or – in case where absolutely no interference in the recorded signal is allowed – they can be configured to emulate a specific monitor and record a mirrored video signal thus ensuring that the link between video source and the display remains untouched. It is up to the
user to decide whether Video Grabber will emulate digital or analogue monitor.

Both VGR-801 and VGR-1001 devices share the same range of functionalities. They only differ when it comes to supported resolutions (see tables on the right).

For digital signals device supports DVI-D Single Link (for resolutions up to 1920 x 1200) and DVI-D Dual Link (for resolutions higher than 1920 x 1200). While it is possible to use DVI-D Dual Link cables for esolutions lower than 1920 x 1200 it is not advised as some video cards generate noise on the unused link when working on Single Link resolution. To avoid such problems use DVI-D (Single Link) cables when working with single link resolutions.

*Integrated video splitter requires at least 700mA on pin 14 of DVI port for passive mode. It can be provided by the monitor or graphics card (or both).

** It is up to the user to configure the effective signal capture rate.
